How I develop from the negatives

Wednesday, 7 October 2015

So, this is the only part of the saying (that the title of my blog is inspired by) that I haven't included in a post! If you are new, you might want to read my 'About' page to understand more of what I mean. Honestly, I have been putting off this post type as I didn't know how to write something on the topic. I have been lucky enough in my life so far to not have had to deal with a great sadness. I know that many people may have and the style of this post will be mainly focusing on short-term negatives instead of the long-term negatives.

Set backs in life can be hard to deal with. I can remember countless of times where I have just thought that there was no point carrying on when times get tough. I'm in no means perfect and I'm not saying this is how you have to act but these are my ways of developing from the negatives...

Recognise the problem

When something has gone wrong for me, I used to put it to the back of my mind and try my hardest to ignore the issue. I've learnt that I can deal with the problem so much more if I tell myself that, yes, something has gone but it won't be like that way forever. Sometimes I find that actually letting in all out and maybe having a good cry can help me a lot. However, I try to, in all of this, not to continue to do this for a long period of time as it then tends to make the problem seem bigger. Just speaking to someone else about it for a while and then thinking that I'm not the only person who knows about the issue can also be therapeutic. By doing these things, the problem is then recognised as a negative and I can endeavour to improve the situation afterwards.

Learn how to deal with the negative

Depending on the what the negative is, I can learn how to cope with it - whether that be a problem which will be apparent for a while or something that I can go and sort out almost straight away. Again, speaking to someone about what the right thing to do can help. I always try to remember to be rational in my decision making and I am calm when deciding on my next step.

Look towards the future

I tend to assess the negative and usually come to the conclusion that in the grand scheme of things, it isn't the end of the world. Of course, at the time, the negative is very important and it feels like everything is against you. However, I try to remember all of the cliché sayings such as, 'Life goes on' and 'It's not the be all and end all'. Basically, if I'm dealing with a negative, I try to look forward to all of the positives in the future. It, honestly, does work out in the end.

These 3 ways are how I develop from the negatives that I have experienced. If you have any other way of dealing with negatives, please share them below!
